Oven-Puffed French Toast

The addition of dark beer to this French toast adds a unique depth and roasted character while making the bread taste airier. 

Ingredients
  • 1 La Brea Bakery French Baguette
  • 10 eggs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup dark beer
  • Pinch of coarse salt
  • 8 tablespoons butter
Preparation
  1. Cut the bread diagonally into ¾-inch slices, and place in a dish in a single layer.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, flour, sugar, baking powder, vanilla, milk, beer and salt. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least one hour.
  3. Heat oven to 350°F.
  4. In a large ovenproof pan, melt the butter.
  5. Add the soaked bread, and brown on one side. Turn the bread over, and place the pan in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes, until the toast is puffed and golden brown on the bottom. Serve warm with your favorite accompaniment.
